Do you have a healthy gut?

Having good digestive health basically means that your food is always being properly broken down and absorbed. But when you suffer from these digestive issues below, you’re not.

However, do you know what causes these gastrointestinal problems? They can be due to unhealthy lifestyle, poor nutrition, infection and aging.

slide2Know-how to a healthy gut

1. Digestive Enzyme

Digestive enzymes help break down food into nutrients in our body. There are three types of digestive enzymes in our body:
Amylase – break down carbohydrates
Protease – break down proteins
Lipase – break down fats
If we don’t have enough digestive enzymes, we can’t break down our food– which means even though we’re eating well, we aren’t absorbing all that good nutrition. You can find some digestive enzymes in vegetables and fruits such as beans, papaya, pineapple and kiwi.  Or you can try digestive enzyme supplements in order to aid in your digestion.

2. Probiotics

All of us have bacteria which live in our digestive system, some of which are good bacteria, some of which aren’t so good. For a strong and healthy immune system, we need to make sure we have more healthy bacteria in our gut and diet has a lot of influence on that. You can find probiotics in certain yogurts, fermented foods and in capsule form.

3. Fibre

Make sure you getting enough fibre every day. Try to include fibre rich foods such as fruits, vegetables, wholegrain breads and cereals, nuts and seeds into your daily meals. Fibre adds bulk and improves bowel movement. Surprisingly, good bacteria feed on fibre too!

4. Stay hydrated

Water is important for digestion! We need water to digest solid food and maintain healthy bowel movements. When taking not enough water, stool becomes hard and difficult to pass. You should aim for 2L of water a day.
